FILLED: Audience Development: Outreach and Grassroots Specialist

Wage: Base: $10/hour; Maximum: $13.10/hour

Area: Promotions/Public Relations

Supervisor: Marketing Coordinator

Functions: Develop and maintain educational outreach and grassroots audience development strategies. Promote Concert Management Office and School of Music events to Chicagoland area schools and retail businesses and the Northwestern University community in an effort to create community relationships. Distribute Concert Management Office and School of Music publications and promotional posters through mailings and a specified distribution route.

Hours: Approximately 6 - 8 hours per week during business hours. Schedule is based upon student's availability and will be formulated on a quarterly basis with the supervisor.

Responsibilities

Overarching Responsibilities:

1. Establish and maintain public contact with teachers and administrators in area schools, day cares, and colleges over the phone, via email, and in person.
2. Assist department with varied projects including season concert series, office organization, correspondence, and budgets and planning.
3. Compile and analyze data and create reports on a variety of subjects.
4. Maintain and analyze departmental budget data.
5. Data entry.
6. Filing of documents.
7. Create and maintain relationships with the Chicago arts community.
8. Poster/flyer sidewalks around campus, downtown Evanston, and Chicago.

Specific Responsibilities:

1. Create new promotions and/or programs and oversee existing outreach programs.
2. Research, develop, and maintain target list of student groups and contact names.
3. Research and contact potential audiences in the greater Chicago area.
4. Distribute in-house publications including "This Week" poster and concert flyers.
5. Reproduce and distribute pitch letters, marketing posters, and flyers to targeted groups via mail and email.
6. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

1. Ability and desire to work independently.
2. Arts administration experience preferred.
3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills necessary to establish contacts at appropriate organizations by telephone, through written communications, and in person.
4. Familiarity with on-campus student organizations and off-campus high-traffic and popular student hang-outs.
5. Initiative very important.

FILLED: Copywriter

Wage: Base: $10/hour; Maximum: $13.10/hour

Area: Marketing/Promotions/Journalism

Supervisor: Marketing Coordinator

Functions: Copywriting for Concert Management Office and School of Music brochures, radio ads, public service announcements, and press releases. Excellent opportunity to use writing skills and to communicate to the public about music events.

Hours: Approximately 6 - 8 hours per week during business hours. Schedule is based upon student's availability and will be formulated on a quarterly basis with the supervisor.

Responsibilities:

1. Write and edit copy for all public materials, including print ads, brochures, concert hotline, press releases, and radio spots.
2. Responsible for proofreading and fact checking all materials.
3. Keep all chronology files, public information up-to-date in Microsoft Word.
4. Seeing writing assignments to completion over the course of a given day or week.
5. Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

1. Must have knowledge of basic writing techniques, reporting experience, and/or copywriting experience.
2. Must be able to meet deadlines.
3. Accuracy and experience in proofreading and editing is critical.
4. Knowledge and/or interest in music and the arts.

OPEN: Graphic Designer

Base Wage: $10.25/hour; Maximum: $13.10/hour

Area: Marketing/Promotions

Supervisor: Marketing Coordinator

Functions: Creating professional quality concert hall publicity materials including posters, advertisements, inserts, postcards, and web graphics.

Hours: Approximately 6 - 8 hours per week during business hours. Schedule is based upon student's availability and will be formulated on a quarterly basis with the supervisor.

Responsibilities:

1. Create concert hall promotional materials, including posters, ads, flyers, program inserts, and signage.
2. Create and maintain professional image of concert hall.
3. Work with rough copy and abstract concepts.
4. Design and manipulate graphics, scanned images, and other visuals.
5. Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

1. Must have page layout, design, and/or art background.
2. Knowledge of Macintosh computer systems.
3. Strong knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop software.
4. Strong attention to detail and editorial awareness during draft phases of assignments.
5. Capability to follow production schedule and meet deadlines.
6. Must be able to utilize resources and work independently to create a design concept.
7. Interest in the arts and music helpful.
8. Portfolio or samples of projects and/or printed pieces.

OPEN: Photographer

Wage: Base: $10.25/hour; Maximum: $13.10/hour

Area: Marketing

Supervisor: Marketing Coordinator

Functions: Photographing Bienen School of Music concerts and events. After shooting photos, photographer(s) will upload photos to our database and online archive. Photographers are also encouraged to edit photographs as they see fit.

Hours: Concerts generally occur in the evenings and on weekends. Evening flexibility is a must for this position. Photographer is responsible for shooting between three to five concerts per quarter, more if desired.

Responsibilities:

1. Take high-quality photographs of concerts and artists during show times following all guidelines set forth by the marketing department.
2. Format and upload photographs in the Concert Management Office marketing database and online photo archive.
3. Manage photo database on computer and organize it for maximum usability and user-friendliness.
4. Communicate with marketing staff to create a work schedule to which photographers are able to fully commit.

Qualifications:

1. Proven experience in digital photography, Macintosh computers, and Photoshop.
2. Dependability in this role is essential. Photographers are relied upon to take archive and print-quality photographs for use in university print magazines and marketing materials. These photographs will serve as the primary record of a given concert and it is crucial that photos are taken and then formatted in a timely manner following the given guidelines and requests from the Marketing Coordinator.
3. Ability to format, file, and store photographs using Photoshop and simple online photo database management software.
4. Communication is critical. Quick response to emails regarding photography assignments and opportunities as well as responsibilities (e.g. photo upload, edits, etc.) is very important.
5. Applicants with photography portfolios preferred.
